COURSE OUTLINE
The traffic control person course (TCP) is a British Columbia Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA) regulated course and is mandatory in BC for any person who deals with traffic control. Traffic control is a challenging job and needs the utmost attention and care. This comprehensive 16-hour TCP program is required to be completed prior to becoming a TCP in BC.
PREREQUISITES
- A person must be at least 16 years old
- CSA approved safety-toed boots with 6″ of ankle support are required during this course
- Have the physical ability to perform the skills required to complete the learning tasks
- Must be able to drive or walk up to 20 minutes for road practice
- No previous training is required
CERTIFICATION
Once completed, each graduating student is issued a three-year certificate of completion and card that allows them to work anywhere in BC as a Traffic Control Person. There is a multiple-choice exam that requires a minimum score of 80%. There is also a practical skills session on the roadway that each student must pass.
United Traffic may offer immediate employment opportunities to qualified candidates.
COURSE LENGTH
The duration of this course is 16 hours over 2 days. It runs from 8am to 5pm. Check-in is at 7:45am.
COURSE CONTENT
- Roles and responsibilities of TCPs, employers and supervisors
- Regulations and standards, including those set out by the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, WorkSafeBC and the Motor Vehicle Act
- Traffic control equipment and devices, including personal protective equipment
- Setting up, maintaining and removing work zones
- Working around equipment
- Basic and advanced traffic control skills
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Please bring your own food & drinks
- Please bring pens and highlighters
- CSA Grade 1 Safety-toed boots (green triangle) with ankle support are required on the second day of class
- Pants and shirts (with minimum 3″ sleeves) must be worn the second day of class
- Dress weather appropriately
- Free parking is available on site
BCCSA GATEWAY REGISTRATION
In addition to registering and paying for the TCP course on United Traffic’s site, you must also register for the course on the BCCSA Gateway at tcpgateway.bccsa.ca. If you have previously registered or completed your TCP course, you will require your Student Number (SN) from the front of your TCP card. You can also get the number directly from the BCCSA: info@bccsa.ca or 604-636-3675.

$285.00 + GST 5%
CANCELLATION POLICY
Full refunds are available for cancellations within 48 hours of the course start date. Please email training@unitedtraffic.ca. Allow for 3-5 business days for processing refunds.
There are no refunds for cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice of the course start date.
